RRFSS E-News: Winter 2020
Health Unit Spotlight: Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit
HKPRDHU has been participating in RRFSS since 2001. “As a mainly rural health unit with primarily small population centres, RRFSS data play an important role in population health surveillance. With few data sources available for rural communities and smaller towns within the HKPRDHU, participating in the RRFSS survey allows the health unit to reach residents in all three of our counties and gather relevant and robust data to inform program planning.” Currently, the HKPRDHU is utilizing the online COVID-19 RRFSS survey to collect risk-factor and social behaviour data to identify the local impacts of the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. “The rapid access to this data will help the health unit and other organizations in our communities respond to the challenges we are currently facing in a timely and informed way.”
RRFSS is re starting in 2021!
The RRFSS telephone surveys will restart in February 2021 and RRFSS will continue to offer the regular 3 cycles of data collection in 2021. This means health units will be able to once again collect much needed health data through the RRFSS telephone survey (including cell phone data). In addition, health units also have the option in 2021 of the new RRFSS on-line survey for collecting COVID-19 related data which was pilot tested this fall. Please go to the RRFSS website: Click here to see all available RRFSS modules including over 100 new COVID-19 related questions.

RRFSS 2021 multi-mode survey options:
1) Telephone surveys

For example, a 10 minute interview with a sample of 1200 completed interviews, (over 3 cycles) costs approximately $44,000. Members can choose any RRFSS questions, including COVID-19.
2) On-line panel survey
Panel members complete the RRFSS survey online. This survey is offered to members for only COVID-19 questions and costs approximately $12,000 for a sample of 400. A follow up on-line survey is also offered (for an additional cost).
